PROFESSIONAL PROFILE IN DOCUMENTATION AND INFORMATION IN MOZAMBIQUE

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the evolution of the profile of the professional who works in the information area in Mozambique, regarding the occupation, academic level and professional competence, having, albeit in a synthetic way, a look at training and occupation norms in Brazil. The data were obtained through the survey, in a non-probabilistic way, accidental or by chance, at the national level, to which 79 former students responded (from a universe, by estimative, of approximately 400). In parallel, semi-structured interviews were applied to employers. Preliminary results show a great evolution regarding the level of training of professionals who are graduated and working in the information area in almost all (95%) had their training in Mozambique, of which 77.2 % graduated in Librarianship, Archival Science or Documentation and Information. There is an evolution in the proportion of employees with comparatively higher levels of training, especially compared to 2003. In other words, there is an exponential evolution in professionals with higher education, particularly those trained in a specific area. Regarding occupation, the State and public institutions remain the largest employers. In other words, the majority (63.3%) are employees or agents of the State and workers in public institutes or companies make up 11.4%, in the background.
